Captain's Log: Graffiti, DaVinci Code and Les Jardins
So my mom calls and asks what I've been up to lately. I have no idea. Really, just stuff. Somehow when you live in Paris, you feel required to give detailed logs of your recent adventures. Like you're Jean-Luc Picard and this is your Captain's Log.Or said another way...Oh she didn't. Yes, she did. Thanks to digital media, I no longer remember anything and must look at my most recent photos to discover what I have, in fact, been doing lately. It's been raining a lot lately. I'll never tire of running up behind a nice umbrella to shoot a photo.Grey and white are the prominent colors of Paris these days.I spotted cool street art en route to the bank. Rare green on Ile St. Louis...Notre Dame, you're looking fantastique for 851 years old. By the way, in English, we say our age as in "I am 39" but in French, they say they HAVE 39 years, which I find to be a much healthier way to look at it. Not a definition of self. A simple collection of years one owns.I zipped off to Saint Sulpice to see if the meridian line in The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown was there. And it WAS. Score. It's called a gnomon, kind of an old sundial. More about that here. The Da Vinci Code was on TV the night before so there were plenty of gawkers like me acting like Robert Langdon. Searching for the holy grail makes one hungry. Lucky for me, I'm in Paris, where treats are around every corner.Ate it with my feet elevated in Jardin du Luxembourg. And watched the kiddies play with their boats in the fountain.A very serious sailor. So thanks to my photos, now I, you and my mom know what I've been getting up to lately in Paris.
