Picasso, Paris and the art of curating

Did you know Picasso left the world 1,876 paintings, 1,335 sculptures, 7,089 standalone drawings, 18,000 prints, 2,880 ceramic pieces and 149 notebooks of drawings?

Pas mal, as they say in France.

I discovered this little tidbit over here. Not only did he create the work but he documented it all. In essence he curated his own future museum.

It got me thinking about the art of curating.

Currently, my curating skills are weak. I have two thick binders of Paris Letters that are quite well organized. Mostly. Sort of. And I have a huge library or photos and letter ideas stored in my computer.

It's a big friggin' mess.

Photos and letters the world may never see because I spend too much time collecting the materials and not enough time doing something with them.

Self gets so annoyed with self.

Am I the only one? Am I the only artist with a lifetime's worth of materials and only two binders to show for it?

Well, two binders and books. Arghm.

Pas mal, but it could be better. Why haven't I whipped out a Monstroso Collectiaro like Picasso?Psychologists would call it fear.Behaviorists would call it laziness.Life coaches would call it lack of prioritizing.But I'm going to call it TIMING.Why? Because it feels better to just shrug off all the reasons why I haven't done anything about it and spend my time here and now DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Let's bypass the psychology, shall we?
